Carnegie Medal

A Carnegie Medal (Medalha Carnegie) em Literatura, é um prêmio que elege a melhor obra literária para crianças e jovens. Foi estabelecida no Reino Unido em 1936, em honra ao filantropo escocês Andrew Carnegie.

Os livros nomeados devem estar escritos em inglês e publicados no Reino Unido, no ano anterior. Os juízes da medalha, são constituídos por um grupo de treze crianças bibliotecárias do Youth Libraries Group of CILIP. A CILIP (do inglês Chartered Institute of Library and Information Professionals) é a associação de bibliotecas e informações do Reino Unido.

Os livros nomeados são lidos por estudantes de muitas escolas, que mandam um feedback para os juízes. A CILIP, também reconhece excelências em ilustração, com a Medalha Kate Greenaway (Kate Greenaway Medal).

Esse prêmio é anunciado no mês de julho, do ano posterior da publicação. O ganhador recebe uma medalha de ouro e uma quantia equivalente a 500 libras esterlinas em livros, para serem doados a uma biblioteca escolar ou pública.

As regras originais diziam que um autor poderia ganhar a medalha somente uma vez. Posteriormente, essa regra foi alterada para permitir trabalhos subsequentes do mesmo autor, que deveriam ser incluídos para consideração.
